Our Initiatives
At Journe, we believe tourism can do more than take people to places. It can connect communities, preserve culture, create opportunities, and inspire meaningful exchange.
Through our initiatives, we create spaces and programmes where locals, travelers, youth, artists, volunteers, and communities can come together to learn, share, grow, and celebrate the North.
Connecting Roots Through Homestays, Food, and Living Traditions
Koodu is Journe's community-based homestay initiative designed to connect travelers and diaspora communities with local families in Northern Sri Lanka. Through Koodu, guests get the opportunity to experience everyday life in the North — from home-cooked meals and cultural stories to traditional practices and warm family hospitality. This initiative is especially meaningful for diaspora travelers who wish to reconnect with their roots in a personal and authentic way.
More than accommodation, Koodu is about belonging, cultural memory, and human connection.
The Tourist Community Space
Suvadu is Journe's tourist community space in Jaffna, created to bring locals and travelers together through culture, creativity, and conversations. It is a welcoming space where cultural exchange becomes accessible, local talents are celebrated, and visitors can experience the North beyond the usual tourist path.
Suvadu is not just a physical space. It is a bridge between people, stories, and cultures.
Learn, Create, and Contribute With Journe
The Weekend Internship is a flexible learning and contribution programme for students, young professionals, and creative individuals who want to gain real-world experience while supporting community tourism. This initiative allows participants to engage with Journe's work during weekends, making it accessible for those who are studying, working, or exploring their career interests.
Purpose
Journe's initiatives are built with one purpose: to make tourism more meaningful, inclusive, and community-led. Through Koodu, Suvadu, and the Weekend Internship, every step is towards a future where tourism supports people, protects culture, and creates lasting impact.
Whether you are a traveler, student, volunteer, partner, artist, or community member, there is a place for you in Journe's initiatives. Come connect with the North through its people, stories, traditions, and everyday life.
